God pushes my pen.

Father, in Jesus' name, as I write these words on this page, I pray that your glory marks every touch of this pen.

Reader,

As you read these words, I pray that the seed finds good soil. Soften your heart so that you can listen to the words spoken from my heart into yours.

What does it mean for one’s pen to be pushed by God? There is a literal and metaphorical meaning here. Firstly literal, for the writer, is to be guided precept upon precept, line upon line. It is to be willing to accept the grace of God that comes with the gift. It can sometimes be an encumbrance for the writer to believe in the words placed on the paper that is his soul. But the reality is this: for those harmoniously in step with the Father, we must trust every word God gives us, even when it doesn’t make sense.

Not every word you inscribe will shine like gold; some words will be dirty. I encourage you, writer, to let it be so, for the genuine process of the writer is to extricate that which is deep-rooted in your soul while maintaining an appreciation for both the dirt and the gold. It is this raw process that cultivates the seeds in others to grow.

Metaphorically, this means to be piloted by God daily. It is imperative to note that there is nothing glamorous about this process, though it is indeed beautiful. There will be moments of resistance when the hand of God moves your pen to write something that you don’t want. There will be moments of doubt. This all comes down to “feeling” versus “being”. We were designed with the ability to feel. Our feelings are much like engine lights to our souls. The scriptures tell us in Deuteronomy 31:6, for example, to not “be afraid.” What does this mean? Are we being told not to feel? No, we are not. I encourage you to observe that “being” is far from just “feeling”. I can “feel” fear but choose to bridle it. Therein lies the power of “being”. Being something has everything to do with your actions. I am a runner because I run. I am a preacher because I preach, etc. Does this make sense? Good. Let’s move on to the final point of this whole thing.

What is the common interest of God guiding one’s pen literally and metaphorically? The point is for us to “be” in step with the Spirit of God. This kind of ideology is written all over the Bible. To live this way is to live beautifully. It is to trend positively towards Christ. It is to accept the reality that while no beautiful picture is perfect, it is precisely the imperfections of man mixed with God’s perfection that creates a perfect image of His grace and mercy in our everyday lives.

Choose today to trust the master writer and allow Him to push your pen.

Peace and love,

My heart for you is that you would trust this:

Submit your heart to God today and watch the rest of your life be changed for the better. It most certainly won’t be easy, but it will be worth it.

Here’s how:

Admit that you are a sinner in desperate need of God’s grace. (Romans 3:23)

Believe that Christ Jesus died on the cross for your sins because He loves you. (John 3:16)

Confess with your lips that Jesus Christ is Lord of your life! (Romans 10:9)

Congratulations! Here’s to eternity with Jesus!
